Roo Geddes

From the Scots verb blether (to chat, talk casually), derived from Old Norse blaðra (to babble, chatter).
Formed by staff and alumni of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), Bletherin is a multicultural dialogue between three of Scotland's finest musicians: Roo Geddes on fiddle, Ewan Johnston on jazz piano, and Sohdi on tabla. Since 2023, their music has explored the spaces between their respective genres through original compositions and improvisation.
Far from treating these as isolated traditions, each musician has studied the others' genres deeply, creating a rich and informed exchange across cultures. Ancient Scottish tunes are set within Hindustani tals and expanded through improvisation and extended jazz harmony.
Recent highlights include performances at Glasgow University, Westbourne Music, and the Glasgow Mela. Their showcase at the RCS earned the distinguished Performance Prize for Jazz, and the trio was invited to perform as part of the Glasgow 850 celebrations. The ensemble is currently working on their debut recording before Ewan moves to New York to begin studies at The New School.
